An incandescent light bulb is an electric light which produces light with a filament wire heated to a high temperature by an electric current passing through it, until it glows. Incandescent bulbs are manufactured in a wide range of sizes, light output, and voltage ratings, from 1.5 volts to about 300 volts.

Incandescent bulbs are the most commonly seen type of light bulb compared to all the types of light bulbs available. While incandescent bulbs are the kind of bulbs most commonly used for household and commercial lighting. Incandescent bulbs are currently being replaced by halogen light bulbs due the higher energy efficiency of halogen light bulbs.

A commonly seen version of incandescent bulb that is seen around the month of December includes the flame shape incandescent bulbs. The flame shape incandescent bulbs are seen during the winter holiday months due to their popularity and use as electric candles in the windows of homes, businesses and schools.
