Where would we be without light bulbs? Well, the simple answer is in the dark. It's true when you think about it. Light bulbs are all around the house, work and even the car. The holidays just wouldn't be the same without those multicolored strings of light bulbs that decorate trees and homes. Every time you hit a switch, a light bulb springs into action. Did you know that New Jersey's Thomas Edison is given credit for inventing the light bulb? While it's true Edison received the first patent for the light bulb, other curious inventors paved the way for his monumental invention. The first commercially viable light bulb was patented by Edison in 1879 and the lights just stayed on from there.
