The L Prize is the first government-sponsored technology competition challenging lighting manufacturers to push the limits of energy efficiency and develop a high quality solid state lighting product to replace the common incandescent bulb. Philips has been awarded the prize because of the energy and environmental savings it delivers, but this is one case where everyone wins. Philips Award Winning LED Bulb represents a major technological leap forward for LED replacement lamps. That means, if every socket in the U.S. converted their 60W incandescent lamps to this new 10W L Prize lamp, the country could save approximately 35 terawatt-hours of electricity in one year, and avoid 20 million metric tons of carbon emissions. That’s enough electricity to power the lights of nearly 18 million U.S. households, or nearly triple the annual electricity consumption of the city of Washington D.C. Can one light bulb make a difference? Yes! The L Prize winning LED lamp from Philips pushes the limits of energy savings and bulb life, and is an answer to our energy future that’s really here today. Philips award winning, market-changing LED lamp, puts the environment and your business in the best light. - Lighting Moves On 100 Years Later Review by Vince

CFL was just an interim solution. It seems LED and specifically Philips has finally made the Edison invention obsolete with this product. My Kill-A-Watt measured ~9.5 watts of usage on this 940-lumen wonder bulb, and light dispersion emanates from 360 degrees, not just the top of the bulb like inferior products. The only downside is like with all current LEDs, the bulb is not recommended for use inside enclosed fixtures. Switch Lighting will hopefully fill in that gap this summer with the release of their liquid-cooled bulbs. (Posted on 5/13/12)Overall Value Quality Feature - Worth the price Review by John

BulbAmerica's price made it a little easier to buy in the first place, but the excellent performance, if it continues for many years, makes it a slam dunk. The only problem I have is my worry about using it outdoors because people might want to steal it. (Posted on 5/7/12)Overall Value Quality Feature - Wonderful Bulb - Expensive Review by Gordon

This is the best LED bulb I have, and I've tried a great many. Reality, however, is that the less energy efficient but mass market 12W EnduraLED from Philips is probably the better compromise bulb and it looks great, but if you want to support the technology and Philips efforts then pick up at least one of these (which is assembled in the US btw) (Posted on 3/22/12)Value Quality Feature Overall - Richard Review by Richard

This bulb is the latest in a series of Phillips LED bulbs that really set the standard for LEDs. This is finally an LED bulb that has good brightness, color and 360 degree light dispersion. This one is a 60 watt equivalent. I hope they can get to a 100 watt equivalent soon. (Posted on 3/21/12)Value Quality Feature Overall
